The NPLQ is the most awarded lifeguard qualification in the UK and Ireland, and it is a fantastic stepping stone into a career in the leisure industry or a flexible part-time role for students.

Course Information

• Dates: Monday 12th October – Friday 16th October 2026

• Daily Schedule: 9:00am – 6:00pm

• Location: Maybole Swimming Pool (Home of Aqua Sharks)

• Cost: £300 (Includes all training materials, tuition, and examination fees)

What You Will Learn

This intensive 5-day course covers everything you need to become a confident, fully certified lifeguard:

• Pool Rescue Skills: Learn how to handle various pool emergencies and rescue techniques.

• Lifeguard Theory: Understand pool safety, hazard identification, and accident prevention.

• First Aid & CPR: Gain essential, life-saving knowledge including cardiopulmonary resuscitation and automated external defibrillator (AED) training.

🎓 Bonus for Students: Completing this qualification successfully awards 8 UCAS Tariff points, making it a brilliant booster for university applications!

Course Pre-Requisites

To participate in the course, candidates must be at least 16 years old on the final day of the assessment and be able to pass a basic fitness test on the first morning.

Candidates must be able to:

• Jump or dive into deep water.

• Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds.

• Swim 100 metres continuously on their front and back.

• Tread water in deep water for 30 seconds.

• Surface dive to the deepest part of the pool floor.
